Over the course of this final year the Thesis course of Fall and Spring semester I have more fully developed the skills necessary to traverse the professional world. My thesis provided me with creative thinking challenges as well as a more thorough understanding of the engineering design process.  The more  important aspect of Thesis was not applying what I did know but what I did when I came across something I did not understand. The struggle of problem solving on my own and learning to seek the advice of others especially those with more knowledge and senior to me (ie. Advisors) proved to be an invaluable lesson. Since undertaking this thesis I have sampled the trial and error of the real world and learned when it is important to seek counsel.

Not only did Thesis teach me when to seek help but also taught me how to use the engineering resources and materials provided to me. I learned how to more effectively use engineering resources such as textbooks and code in solving an engineering problem. The redesign of my Thesis building is Spring featured a two-way slab system which I understood little of. Through the course of the Spring semester I learned much in the way of ACI and how to design in concrete while also learning what gaps I had in my knowledge and where to find the answers.

Overall Thesis has prepared me to be a more capable engineer that is able to handle the challenges set forth in the professional world.

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐in progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of  Daniel Hirt. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
